Appointed by the Royal Commission of AlUla (RCU), Alto Piano created and Matteo Frittelli directed a short film documenting the project by James Turrell, a leading American artist in the Light and Space movement, known for his explorations of sensory perception, color and space. In the fascinating desert of Wadi AlFann, Saudi Arabia, the artist has conceived a colossal land art installation, a “cosmic observatory”, which will create a unique and immersive environment. This documentary film offers an intimate look at Turrell’s artistic vision, presenting insights such as an interview conducted in his studio in Arizona and enriched with archive footage reflecting his design inspirations.
